INDIANAPOLIS – On Tuesday, the Horizon League announced its Players of the Week for the ninth week of the 2024 baseball season with Milwaukee starting pitcher
Luke Hansel earning Pitcher of the Week honors.
Â
Hansel put together a strong performance for the Panthers as Milwaukee took 2-of-3 from the Youngstown State Penguins over the weekend.
Â
The right-hander tied his season high with seven innings pitched to earn the win as he allowed just one run on five hits and a walk, while striking out seven batters.
Â
In 2024, he has pitched 55 innings and allowed just 21 earned runs for a Horizon League-leading 2.78 ERA, while holding batters to a league-best .208 batting average among pitchers that qualify. He also leads the league with 50 strikeouts, while pitching the second-most innings in the league.
Â
In two seasons with the Panthers, Hansel has eight wins over 23 starts and has thrown 122 innings with 116 strikeouts. He has an ERA of 4.57 while holding the opposition to just a .263 batting average.
Â
This is the first time Hansel has been recognized in his Milwaukee career with a weekly award and becomes the first Panther to earn weekly honors this season. Last year, Milwaukee had two players earn Pitcher of the Week honors as
Nick Gilhaus (
March 8), and
Riley Frey (
April 4) received the distinction in 2023.
Â
Milwaukee is home for four games this week including Wednesday's game at American Family Field against MSOE, the Panthers and Raiders will begin at 5:35 p.m.Â
