INDIANAPOLIS – The Milwaukee men's and women's swimming and diving program had seven Panthers earn Horizon League All-Academic Team honors, as announced today by the league office.
On the women's side,
Mara Freeman,
Julie Rebek, and
Therese Missiaen were named to the 2024 Valeo Women's #HLSD All-Academic Team, while
Lucy Borlase earned Honorable Mention.
For the men,
Sam Hauke,
Adam St. John, and
Ben Lorenz earned spots on the 2024 Valeo Men's #HLSD All-Academic Team.
Rebek is the only repeat member out of the group, earning first team honors in 2023. She was also named to the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District Team, where she was joined by Lorenz and Hauke.
Rebek is currently in her senior year with the Panthers as a JAMS major and holds a GPA of 3.884. She recorded eleven first-place finishes during the season, and earned points for the Panthers in the 1- and 3-meter dives at the 2024 Horizon League Championships.
Missiaen is a senior Kinesiology major with the Panthers and holds a GPA of 3.958. The diver finished on the podium six times throughout the season, while also winning the consolation final of the 3-meter dive at the conference championship meet.
Freeman is a sophomore marketing major with a 4.000 GPA. Freeman earned five individual wins during the season, capping the year by medaling in three events at the Horizon League Championship meet.
Earning Honorable Mention, Borlase is a senior photography major with a GPA of 3.834. Borlase earned multiple top-five finishes during the season, including a fifth-place finish in the 200 Breast at the conference championship meet.
Hauke is in his senior year with the Panthers and is studying Biomedical Engineering. He currently holds a GPA of 3.954. The senior Panther has also earned the Faculty Athletic Representative Awards in both 2022 and 2023.
Lorenz is a physics major in his junior year with the Panthers and holds a GPA of 3.816. The freestyler found the podium in eight different races this season, and tied the program record in the 50 Free at the conference championship meet, recording a time of 20.12 seconds.
St. John is in his senior year with the Panthers and is studying actuarial science. He currently holds a 3.833 GPA. The diver earned nine wins throughout the season and scored for Milwaukee in both the 1- and 3-meter dives at the 2024 Horizon League Championships.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. An Honorable Mention team is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes but did not make the All-Academic team.
