MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Swimming & Diving teams will open their seasons on Friday with a trio of Horizon League matchups at IU Indy. The meet features conference foes Cleveland State, Green Bay, and the host Jaguars.
This event marks the earliest competition date in program history, with the previous coming on Oct. 1, 2004.
MILWAUKEE WOMEN PREVIEW
The Panther women open the season slotted to finish second in the Horizon League preseason poll, receiving 41 votes. Milwaukee had an impressive showing at the Horizon League Championships a season ago, finishing runner-up. Head coach
Kyle Clements was tabbed Women's Swimming Coach of the Year last season, his fourth time receiving the honor.
The Panthers are led by three returning Horizon League All-Conference honorees.
Gabrielle LePine was named All-League First Team and took home Swimmer of the Week honors four times during her sophomore campaign.
Maddi Hayashi and
Mara Freeman were named All-League Second Team a season ago as well.
MEN'S TEAM BREAKDOWN
The men were selected third in the Horizon League preseason poll, earning 30 votes including one first-place vote. At last season's championship meet, the Panthers claimed fourth place, their best finish at the league championships since 2015.
Milwaukee returns
Gunnar Seversen, who was tabbed Newcomer of the Year after his impressive performance at last year's conference championships. The Panthers also welcome back
Caleb Carlisle who looks to have a breakout season for the Black & Gold.
