Aniamaka Breaks Milwaukee Triple Jump Record at Panther Tune-Up

February 17, 2024

MILWAUKEE Divine Aniamaka broke a 22 year old Milwaukee triple jump record today as the Milwaukee track & field program hosted the Panther Tune-Up at the Klotsche Center.

Aniamaka set the new program record by leaping a distance of 15.42m (50'7") on his second attempt. The freshman Panther took down the previous record of 15.39m, which was set by Ken Hunt in 2002.

Anthony Campbell won the long jump, improving his MKE second-best PR to 7.78m (25'6.25"), just three centimeters short of tying the program record.

Finnegan Shields won the shot put with a toss of 16.32m (53'6.5), earning him the eighth spot on Milwaukee's top ten list. Aiden Janke placed second with a throw of 14.28m (46'10.25"), and Jeremiah Johnson took third at 13.48m (44'2.75").

Shields also won the weight throw, recording a distance of 15.58m (51'1"). He was joined in the top three by Johnson who came in second with a throw of 14.80m (48'7").

"Today was an outstanding day to finish off the regular season with the Horizon League Championships right around the corner," head coach Andrew Basler said. "There were a lot of personal bests as we tuned up for conference. I thought the horizontal jumps showed out today. Anthony is putting things together at the right time, and Divine laid the foundation of what we will see from him the next four years by eclipsing that record."

Milwaukee swept the top five in the pole vault, with Evan Bartelsen leading the way by clearing a height of 4.70m (1'5"). Jack Browne took second with a 4.55m (14'11.25") mark, and Tony Bretall placed third at 3.95m (12'11.25"). Liam Richards and Jack Misky came in fourth and fifth.

Richards also competed in the 60m hurdles, winning the event in 8.34 seconds. Bretall earned another podium finish, placing third with a time of 8.83.

Nate Griepentrog earned a win in the 800m run, leading a Milwaukee sweep with a time of 1:55.55. Carter Eckhoff came placed second in 1:56.53, and Sam Schreiber crossed the line in 1:57.10 for third.

Collin Schulz topped the podium in the high jump, winning by clearing a height of 2.00m (6'6.75"). Schulz was joined on the podium by Caden Thomas who took third with a height of 1.90m (6'2.75).

Caleb Henry won the 400m dash, crossing the line in 50.12 seconds, and Alexander Maggit placed second in the 60m dash with a time of 7.16 seconds.

"We are excited for the challenge that awaits us in Youngstown next weekend," Basler commmented.

Next up for the Panthers is the Horizon League Indoor Championships, taking place February 24th and 25th in Youngstown, Ohio.
