Panther Compete Well at Conference Championships Day One

Women's 800 Free Relay Team Takes 2nd

INDIANAPOLIS – The Milwaukee men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed today at day one of the 2024 Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships, earning a second-place finish in the women's 800 free relay.
 
Janelle Schulz, Erika Thomas, Grace Hudson, and Audrey Dixon combined their efforts to place second in the women's 800 free relay, touching the wall in 7:23.38, just two seconds off MKE record pace.
 
The squad of Carly Plate, Hanna Degrace, Brielle Laube, and Noelle Bryan just missed the podium in the 200 medley relay, placing fourth with a time of 1:43.66, which was just 0.47 seconds behind the third place Cleveland State team.
 
In the preliminary round of the women's 3-meter dive, Milwaukee placed fifth, eighth, and eleventh. Julie Rebek improved from fifth to fourth in the finals of the women's 3-meter dive with a score of 270.25, and Kristina Wittmann earned a seventh place finish, scoring 227.55 to move up a spot after the prelims. After placing eleventh in the prelims, Therese Missiaen improved her score to 225.65 to win the consolation final and take ninth overall in the event.
 
On the men's side, the 200 medley relay team of Jared Bruce, Andrew Jones, Nik Wheeler, and Ben Lorenz finished 0.43 seconds away from setting a new program record. Their time of 1:29.78 earned fourth in the race.
 
The men also earned a fifth place relay finish on the day, this time in the 800 free relay. The squad of Jay Jensen, Charlie House, Jackson Ahrens, and Zach McClellan touched the wall in 6:38.88, less than two seconds off MKE record pace.
 
After day one of competition, the Milwaukee women sit in third place with 100 points, behind IUPUI (105) and Oakland (116). The men are currently tied with Youngstown State for fourth, putting up 58 points each. Oakland, IUPUI, and Cleveland State make up the top three.
 
The Championships continue tomorrow morning, with preliminary heats beginning as early as 10 a.m. Men's 1-meter diving will begin at 1 p.m., and final heats for the 1-meter dive, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and the 200 free relay are scheduled for 5:30.
