Three from Baseball Selected to Horizon League All-Academic Team

INDIANAPOLIS – On Thursday, the Horizon League announced its All-Academic baseball team for the 2023 season with a trio of Panthers earning accolades from the conference.

Two Milwaukee pitchers were named to the All-Academic team with Nate DeYoung and Nick Gilhaus garnering recognition, while Aaron Chapman was named to the Honorable Mention team.
 
For all three recognized by the Horizon League, it is their first selections of their respective careers. This is the fifth consecutive season that Milwaukee has had multiple student-athletes honored, including three apiece in both the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
 
A total of 21 selections from across the Horizon League were announced on Thursday, with eligibility requirements including a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale, the student-athlete must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's overall contests and must have completed at least one year at their respective institutions.
 
DeYoung earned his bachelor's degree in marketing in the spring of 2022 and is currently finishing up his undergraduate certificate in real estate this spring.
 
On the mound, DeYoung is among the national leaders in saves with nine as he also has a win in 12 outings this season. He has struck out 24 batters over 12 innings pitched with a 2.25 earned run average. At the plate, DeYoung has connected on three long balls with 19 RBIs as the team's primary designated hitter with 31 hits on the season.
 
Gilhaus will be finishing up his undergraduate degree this spring with a degree in mechanical engineering while minoring in computer science.
 
Among the national leaders in relief innings pitched, Gilhaus has a 3.33 earned run average over 51 1/3 innings pitched with 53 strikeouts over that span. He has a win on the season in 21 appearances with a .255 batting average against.
 
Chapman is wrapping up his Master of Business Administration this semester as he also plans to graduate this spring.
 
This season Milwaukee's third baseman is the team's leader on offense as he holds the team lead with a .341 batting average to go along with a team-best 63 hits, seven home runs, while he also leads the Panthers with 34 runs scored. His batting average is fourth in the Horizon League, while he is tied for fourth in the conference in hits.
 
Milwaukee will continue its weekend series with Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday and Saturday with both games beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Franklin Field.
