GREENWOOD, Ind. – On Tuesday, the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) announced its Academic All-District Team for the sport of baseball with five members of the Milwaukee baseball team earning all-district honors.

The Panthers recognized by CSC were
Nate DeYoung,
Nick Gilhaus,
Jake Novak,
Ty Olejnik, and
Jack Thelen. This is the first selection in each of their careers, as they are the first Panthers to earn Academic All-District Accolades since 2019.

Four years ago,
Trevor Schwecke,
Joe Vyskocil and
Matt Quartel picked up all-district recognition, with Schwecke moving on to earn Academic All-American honors later that spring. The baseball program has had four Academic All-American selections, with Schwecke in 2019,
Luke Meeteer in 2016,
Sam Koenig in 2015, and
Tim Patzman in 2010.

DeYoung is currently finishing up his undergraduate certificate in real estate this semester after receiving his bachelor's degree in marketing following the spring 2022 semester. On the field, DeYoung is among the national leaders in saves with nine on the season as he has a 2.25 ERA over 12 innings of work with 24 strikeouts entering the final week of the season.

Gilhaus is graduating with his degree in the spring of 2023 as he will receive an honors degree in mechanical engineering, while also receiving a computer science minor. He is among the top pitchers in relief innings this season having tossed 46 1/3 frames while pitching to a 3.69 ERA with 47 strikeouts and a 1-1 record.

Novak acquired his finance degree in the fall of 2022 and will be graduating this summer with his master's in business administration. Novak has been a vital cog for the Panthers as a contributor in 34 of the team's 49 games this season, he has 22 hits with five doubles, two triples and two home runs while both driving in and scoring 11 runs on the season.

Olejnik received his bachelor's degree in marketing degree in the spring of 2021 and later earned his Master of Business Administration in the Spring of 2022. He is completing his graduate certificate in business analytics this semester. On the field, Olejnik has been penciled into the starting lineup as the team's everyday centerfielder and has a .261 average with 46 hits including five home runs while driving in 23 runs in his final season with the team.

Thelen earned his bachelor's degree in health care administration in 2021, before adding a Master of Business Administration degree a year later. He is currently completing his graduate certificate in business analytics. The team's primary backstop has been in the lineup for 46 games including 42 starts with five home runs and 17 RBIs, while defensively he leads the Horizon League in caught base stealers with 24 on the year.

The five Panthers led the six-team Horizon League, as both Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne had four selections apiece, while Youngstown State had one student-athlete recognized.

Milwaukee's quintet are now eligible for Academic All-America Honors, which will be announced on Wednesday, June 7.
