Swietlik, Wenzel Post Personal-Best Times in 10K at Mt. SAC Relays

April 14, 2023

WALNUT, Calif. – A pair of Panthers made their way to Los Angeles on Thursday in a late addition to the schedule as Meg Swietlik and Trevor Wenzel took part in the Mt. SAC Relays at historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

The pair were Milwaukee's first entries at the Mt. SAC Relays since the 2017 season, as Swietlik and Wenzel closed out the first night of the four-day event in the 10,000m run.

Swietlik took 15th in her heat with a time of 36:02.38 and began her race with a best split of 1:22.24 on her first lap. This was Swietlik's sixth career entry in the 10,000m with a career-best time in the event and moved into seventh on the all-time outdoor list. Her time takes over the top spot in the Horizon League at this juncture of the season.

Wenzel was 22nd in his heat with a time of 30:42.51 and had his best split time of 1:08.78 on his third lap. For Wenzel it was his first collegiate entry in the 10,000m and posted the third-best time in program outdoor history, just 30 seconds shy of the program mark. Wenzel's time is currently fourth-best in the Horizon League.

"Both Meg and Trevor ran extremely well through the first 4,000 meters," said head coach Andrew Basler. "However, they lost contact with the main pack and got stuck running a lot by themselves.

"In a race as long as the 10k being out there on your own feels like you are running a workout as opposed to racing," added Basler. "Overall, it was a great experience for them, and they will be better prepared for the Horizon League Championships because of it."

Track & Field action continues Friday and Saturday, as Friday action will see the resumption of the Gibson Invitational hosted by Indiana State. In addition to day three at the Gibson on Saturday, Milwaukee will also have several entries in the Green & White Invite at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
