MILWAUKEE – A total of six members of the Milwaukee swimming & diving teams have been named to the Valeo Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team, announced today by the league office.
 
The women led the charge with four members, all on the first team in Giulia Guerra-Montes, Riley Melendy, Julie Rebek, and Makaila Scheiblein, who was a repeat honoree from a year ago.
 
For the men, Jared Kleczka also picks up the award for a third year in a row while Jonathan Kollen adds honorable mention status.
 
Guerra-Montes, a Business and Marketing major, carries a 3.82 GPA in the classroom. A veteran member of the team who has been a consistent scorer at Horizon League meet, she placed fifth in the 400 IM, sixth in the 200 backstroke, and 14^th in the 200 IM at the 2023 Horizon League Championships. Guerra-Montes has also been a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll every semester she has been eligible.
 
Melendy was the 2023 Horizon League Champion in the 100 backstroke and also placed 9^th in 200 back & 16^th in the 200 IM at the 2023 Horizon League Championships. A mechanical engineering major with a 3.68 GPA, Melendy has also been a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll every semester she has been eligible.
 
Rebek is a Journalism, Advertising, & Media Studies major with a 3.91 GPA who finished third on three-meter and fourth on one-meter board at the 2023 Horizon League Championships. Rebek claimed nine different individual wins over the course of the 2022-23 season and posted NCAA Zone-qualifying scores nine different time. She was also named Horizon League Diver of the Week four times this winter.
 
Scheiblein was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team last season and is an Education major with a 3.82 GPA. The Horizon League Champion in the 200 breaststroke at the 2023 meet, she also finished runner-up in the 100 breaststroke and 12^th in the 200 IM and has been a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll every semester eligible.
 
Kleczka has also been tabbed for the Horizon League All-Academic Team each of the past two seasons and is a senior with a 3.85 GPA as an HR Management major. He finished second on three-meter and fourth on one-meter at the 2023 Horizon League championships – marking the fourth Top-3 finish of his career. Kleczka posted NCAA Zone-qualifying scores nine different time this past season and has qualified for the NCAA Zone meet all four years at Milwaukee. He has been named Horizon League Diver of the Week six times in his career and was named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll each semester possible.
 
Kollen is a Finance major with a 3.83 GPA. He placed 12th in the 200 freestyle at the 2023 Horizon League Championships and has been a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.
 
The Valeo All-Academic and Honorable Mention Teams are comprised of student-athletes from six of the League's institutions. Leading the way is IUPUI with eight representatives on the All-Academic Teams. Oakland and Youngstown State both had six student-athletes, while Milwaukee had five, followed by Cleveland State with four, and Green Bay rounds out the team with two. Oakland also had seven student-athletes on the Honorable Mention teams, with Green Bay and Milwaukee each having one student-athlete on the Honorable Mention Teams.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
