Megan Walstad Repeats on Horizon League All-Academic Team

INDIANAPOLIS – On Thursday, the Horizon League announced its All-Academic Team with Milwaukee forward Megan Walstad earning recognition for the second consecutive season.
 
A total of five selections from across the Horizon League are selected, with eligibility requirements including a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale, the student-athlete must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's overall contests and must have completed at least one year at their respective institutions.
 
This is Walstad's second-consecutive selection to the All-Academic Team as she is double-majoring in marketing and psychology, with a 3.96 GPA. Walstad is the program's eighth overall selection dating back to the 2010-11 season, and just third in program history to have two selections all-time, joining Sami Tucker from 2012 and 2013, and Steph Kostowicz from 2016 and 2017.
 
This is Milwaukee's fourth consecutive year with at least one representative on the All-Academic team, with Walstad earning in 2022, Brandi Bisping in 2021, and Alyssa Fischer in 2020.

During the 2022-23 season, Walstad has averaged 9.5 points per game, and 7.7 rebounds per game with 61 assists, 12 steals, and a team-best 29 blocks. She has started in all 26 of the team's games thus far on the season and is among the conference leaders in minutes played at 32.5 per contest. For the year, she has 199 total rebounds with 37 coming on the offensive glass and has tied her career high with 61 assists. She has made 44.6 percent of her shots overall, while also converting on 28.3 percent from three, and continues to connect on over 88 percent from the free-throw line for the third consecutive season.

For her career, Walstad currently sits 10th all-time in scoring at 1,334, and is fourth on the all-time list in total rebounds with 868. She is second all-time in defensive boards with 628, while she is fourth on the all-time list in rebounding average for her career at 7.6. Walstad is also top-five all-time in field goal percent (5th, 49.7), free throw percent (4th, 85.0), blocks (4th, 153), double-doubles (5th, 23), and double-digit rebounding games (4th, 30).
 
Walstad along with Riley Ott of Purdue Fort Wayne were the only repeat selections this year. Joining Walstad and Ott, were Irene Murua of Detroit Mercy, Sydney Levy of Green Bay, and Rachel Kent of IUPUI.
 
Five additional selections were named to the Honorable Mention Team, having received at least 25 percent of the votes from the conference's 11 Faculty Athletic Representatives. Destiny Leo of Cleveland State, Emmy Souder of Northern Kentucky, as well as Megan Callahan, Malia Magestro, and Lilly Ritz of Youngstown State.
 
In the history of the Horizon League awarding All-Academic Team honors, a total of five student-athletes have ever received recognition on three occasions. Three from Youngstown State, and one each from Detroit Mercy and Northern Kentucky.
 
Milwaukee closes out its 2022-23 regular season this weekend, as the Panthers host the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on Thursday evening at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup against Cleveland State on Saturday at 1 p.m. with both games inside the Klotsche Center.
