Malone and Miller Named Academic All-District Selections

December 12, 2023

GREENWOOD, Ind. – On Tuesday, College Sports Communicators announced its Academic All-District teams for the 2023 volleyball season with a pair of Milwaukee Panthers earning All-District accolades.

Earning academic honors were graduate student Ari Miller, and junior Madi Malone, who add to their already decorated 2023 seasons with their selections.

This is the third consecutive season that Miller has earned All-District recognition, after receiving honors in both 2021 and 2022. For Malone, this is her first time being recognized by College Sports Communicators. Both Miller and Malone earned accolades from the Horizon League as members of the Horizon League All-Academic Team.

Miller currently has a 3.89 grade-point average in graduate school as she looks to finish up her master's degree in business administration after completing her undergraduate degree with a 3.97 gpa in health care administration. In the classroom, Malone currently has a 3.60 grade point average and is an education major at UW-Milwaukee.

While the pair have had success in the classroom, the duo were also recognized for their on-court success as well in helping the Panthers to a 21-win season, as the team finished the regular season tied for second in the regular season standings. Following the conclusion of the campaign the duo also earned spots on the Horizon All-League First Team.

Miller capped off her decorated career with a team-high 489.5 points as she was second on the team with 383 kills and added a career-best 29 service aces, with a team-high 135 blocks, which also led the Horizon League. Miller also had career highs in both digs with 100 and assists with 15 in 2023, as she was selected as Horizon League Player of the Week on three occasions during the season.

Malone was a four-time selection as Horizon League Player of the Week and was among the Horizon League leaders in kills on the season with a team-best 428. Malone was second to Miller in points with 476.5 this year including 23 service aces and a career-best 48 blocks. Malone also registered 319 digs on the season for the second-most on the team and added a career-high 26 assists to the Panther offense.

With their selections as All-District honorees, both Malone and Miller are now eligible to be selected as Academic All-Americans. Milwaukee has had 25 all-time Academic All-American selections, including three from the sport of volleyball. Lauren Felsing was a two-time Academic All-American in both 2008 and 2009, while Cheryl Hegemann was the program's first selection just two years prior in 2006.
