Panthers Grab Three Podium Finishes at Second Day of House of Champions Meet

INDIANAPOLIS – Competing in the second day of the IUPUI House of Champions meet, the Milwaukee men's and women's swimming & diving teams improved on their day one performances by reaching the championship podium in three different events.
 
Jay Jensen, Erika Thomas, and the women's 800 yard freestyle relay team all placed in the top three of the championship heat in their respective events on Friday evening.
 
Jensen finished second in the men's 400 IM, touching the wall with a time of 3:56.93 and recording the only championship podium for Milwaukee's men's squad. Thomas grabbed a third-place finish in the women's 400 IM, finishing in 4:26.11, less than one second out of the runner-up spot.
 
Milwaukee's third championship podium of the day came from the 800 freestyle relay team consisting of Thomas, Janelle Schulz, Grace Hudson, and Audrey Dixon. The Panthers' squad finished with a time of 7:30.23, nearly four seconds better than the third-place finishers.

Nik Wheeler added to his solid showing in Indianapolis with a fifth place finish in 100 fly, followed by Zach McClellan and Hayden Christiansen performing well in the consolation final, finishing 12th and 13th overall. Lilly Nesson finished the 400 IM just two spots behind Thomas in fifth, and Johanna Edgren raced in the consolation final, finishing 13th overall. Christiansen added to his solid outing later in the meet with a fifth place finish in the 100 back.
 
Nhia Caras took 11th overall and Allie Buytendorp was victorious in the D final of the women's 100 fly. Katherine Hackett followed shortly afterwards with the top finish in the bonus final of the women's 400 IM. Julie Rebek showed her prowess on the 1 meter board, winning the consolation final with a score of 269.65. Jackson Hodek helped the Panthers with his finish in the consolation final of the 400 IM, touching the wall in the 12th overall position.
 
Yassin Dwidar mirrored Hacket, winning the bonus final of the men's 400 IM, and was followed close behind by Vince Chiapetta, who placed second. Schulz finished 5th overal in the 200 free, Hudson added to her podium total with a runner-up finish in the consolation final, and Victor Kostov placed second in the bonus final of the men's 100 back.

In the 100 breast, Andrew Jones grabbed sixth overall with a time of 55.43, and Hanna DeGrace managed a 13th place finish on the women's side, competing in the consolation final. In the women's 100 back, three Panthers scored as Mara Freeman, Skylar Ruggles, and Carly Plate finished 4th, 8th, and 12th overall.

Another trio of Panthers scored in the 100 back, this time on the men's side of the pool. Nicholas Klenner, Kevin Soltys, and Jared Bruce finished 13, 15, 16, all in the consolation final. Adam St. John and Ben Stitgen finished 15th and 16th in the men's 3 meter dive.
 
The Panthers have one more day of competition to move up the standings and will compete in the 1650 freestyle along with multiple sprint events. Tomorrow's events mark the final competition swimming the Panthers will do until January 27th in Green Bay.
