MILWAUKEE, Wis. –
AJ Blubaugh earned Horizon League Reliever of the Year honors for the second straight season while
Riley Frey,
Luke Seidel, and
Justin Hausser also collected Horizon League awards, announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
Blubaugh becomes the first back-to-back Relief Pitcher of the Year since 2014-15 (Andrew Elliott, Wright State). He was also named All-League First Team. Frey and Seidel collected All-League Second Team nods while Hausser was named to the All-Freshman team.
Blubaugh did it all this year but transitioned to back his relief role on April 19 and was dominant. In 13.2 innings out of the bullpen, he racked up six saves while striking out 19 and walking just four. The sophomore recorded a 2.63 ERA in those nine appearances and held opponents to a .149 batting average. Blubaugh's 1.06 WHIP led the league and ranked 53rd in NCAA Division I.
Frey capped another impressive season with a complete game shutout of Wright State in his final outing. The lefty finished the year in the Horizon League's top five in ERA (4th, 4.10), opposing batting average (5th, .263), innings pitched (4th, 79.0), strikeouts (3rd, 85), and wins (t-1st, 5). Frey struck out 59 batters in 51 innings of Horizon League action with a 3.18 ERA.
Seidel put together an impressive Horizon League season, hitting .360 with a .457 on-base percentage, both of which ranked in the league's top six. In 47 games this year, Seidel a team-best .305, driving in 19 runs and scoring 31 more. He recorded 15 stolen bases which led the team and ranked third in the Horizon League. Seidel also totaled 93 putouts and four assists in 98 changes (.990) as one of the Panthers' top outfielders.
Hausser was solid in his first year for the Panthers, recording a .357 batting average and a .458 on-base percentage. The DeForest, Wisconsin native drove in 12 and scored nine runs. In games where he recorded at least two plate appearances, Hausser went 25-for-65 (.385) with 10 walks, 12 RBI, and nine runs scored.
