Panthers Add Impact Transfer Jalen Johnson To Roster

Averaged 16.0 ppg and 7.3 rpg last season

MILWAUKEE – Jalen Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind., has signed with Milwaukee and will join the roster of the men's basketball team, head coach Bart Lundy announced today.

Johnson, a 6-foot, 7-inch, 230-pound forward, comes to the Panthers following an impressive three-year stay at Alabama A&M in which he was named a BOXTOROW All-American in each of the past two seasons.

"Not only is Jalen a really good and productive player, but he is a great kid and a great teammate," Lundy said. "We are excited to have him join our family. He will instantly become one of the better inside-out players in the Horizon League. We are excited for him and happy to have him here."

In 75 career games at the NCAA Division I level, he has recorded 893 points and 416 rebounds, putting together per-game averages of 11.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 49.3 percent from the floor.

This past season, Johnson was named a BOXTOROW Division I First-Team All-American after he averaged 16.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.0 steals and shot .472 from the field. The honors from BOXTOROW recognize him as one of the 17 best players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) this past winter.

Johnson was named to the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference First-Team as well as to the SWAC All-Tournament Team after helping the Bulldogs reach the league semifinals for the first time since 2014. He was also named to the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List and earned NABC All-District First-Team Honors.

Over the course of the 2021-22 season he registered double-doubles seven times along with 17 games of 15 points or more, including a career-high 30 against Cincinnati.

He led the way as a junior with averages of 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.8 assists while shooting 56.2 percent from the field. That number led the SWAC in field goal percentage and placed 31st in the nation. He was second in offensive rebounds per game (3.27) in the league and placed third in the SWAC in both points and rebounds per game. That helped him earn the first All-American honor of his career, picking up Second-Team honors from BOXTOROW after scoring in double-figures 12 times, including four outings of 20 or more points. As a freshman, he played in all 30 games, scoring 166 points while shooting 46.0 percent from the floor.

Johnson averaged 22.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game as a senior in high school to lead Manual to a 16-9 record while shooting 59.9 percent from the field. He checked in at 22.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per game as a junior, ranked as the 14th-best prospect in Indiana in the class of 2019 by the Indianapolis Star.
