BJ Freeman Signs With MKE Men’s Basketball

Joins Panthers from Dodge City CC

MILWAUKEE – BJ Freeman has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Milwaukee men's basketball team, head coach Bart Lundy announced today.

Freeman, a 6-foot, 6-inch, 180-pound guard/forward, comes to Milwaukee following a successful freshman campaign at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas.

"BJ is a player that originally comes from North Carolina and I have known for a number of years," Lundy said. "He has played for some really good coaches and has athleticism, length, and competitiveness, and also made 65 three-pointers as a true freshman last season. He is going to add a lot to the wing position on our roster."

Freeman appeared in 33 games on the season, helping lead the Conquistadors to an impressive 30-5 overall record, which included a 21-3 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play. The historic season for the program came to a close in the Elite Eight of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament, with Freeman averaging 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

He made 24 starts among those 33 appearances, shooting 44.3 percent (154-of-348) from the floor, 37.1 percent (65-of-175) from three-point range, and 75.0 percent (63-of-84) from the free throw line. He also added 27 blocks and 33 steals, finishing second on the team in both categories on a per-game basis.

He netted 20-plus points in five games overall, with his best output of the season coming against Colby in mid-January. Freeman went for 36 points that contest, hitting 12-of-22 shots from the floor, including 5-of-10 from three-point range.

Freeman spent his senior season of high school at Moravian Prep (N.C.), wrapping up his prep career there after putting up great numbers at Clayton High School. His junior year, he helped the team to a 26-3 record while putting up huge statistics of 20.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. MaxPreps.com had him listed at No. 44 in the state of North Carolina at the time.
