MILWAUKEE – Zach Howell of Ozark, Mo., has signed to play for the Milwaukee men's basketball team, head coach
Bart Lundy announced today.
Howell, a 6-foot, 5-inch, 200-pound shooting guard, comes to Milwaukee following an impressive prep career at Springfield Catholic High School in Springfield, Missouri.
"We were very fortunate to find Zach," Lundy said. "Zach was looking for a home and we were looking for a great wing player. He is arguably one of the best shooters in the Midwest and has great size. He is a tough kid who is a great rebounder and we are thrilled to have him be a part of the Panther family."
Howell capped his high school time with a phenomenal senior campaign, earning Class 5 All-State honors as well as Class 5 District Player of the Year accolades following a season in which he averaged 24.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
A three-time all-district and all-conference honoree, Howell was also named the 2022 Big 8 East Player of the Year and the
Springfield News-Leader's 2021-22 Boys' Basketball Player of the Year after leading the Fightin' Irish to a fourth-place finish in the Class 5 state tournament.
He came through with numerous memorable outings, including a 33-point outburst in a one-point victory in knocking off Nixa – considered the best team in his area this season – on 10-of-15 shooting which included 5-of-7 from downtown.
As a junior, he averaged 26 points and 9.8 boards per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from deep. The sharpshooter totaled nearly 300 made 3's in his high school career with a 35.4 shooting percentage from deep over that span, finishing with over 2,000 career points.
He also enjoyed a successful AAU career with Yanders Law and joined the Panthers following interest from numerous other schools, including an offer from Texas Tech.
