Box Score FRANKLIN, Wis. –
Nate DeYoung laced a two-out, go-ahead RBI double in the seventh inning to help the Milwaukee baseball team earn a 5-3 victory over Northern Kentucky on Friday afternoon.
"Nate picked us up and put a great swing on the ball to give us the edge there," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "It was comforting to find a tack on run there to allow us to give the ball to Edwards and I thought he threw the ball really well I in the ninth."
Riley Frey anchored the Panthers on the mound, throwing a career-high eight innings and matching his career-high with 10 strikeouts.
"Hats off to Riley. Just an outstanding job of bearing down," Doffek commented. "Things weren't looking great, but he just kept putting up zeros and looked really sharp. He did exactly what you hope your starter would do. He will always compete and that's what happened.
The sophomore allowed just three hits and three runs, all in the third inning, as he picked up his third win of the season.
MKE (9-8, 2-0 Horizon League) could not bring its runners around in the first five innings but mounted a rally in the sixth as
Conner Goodman ripped a double to score
Aaron Chapman.
Zach Nogalski followed with an RBI groundout and
Jack Thelen tied it up with a double off the left-field wall.
An inning later, DeYoung laced the go-ahead double to score
Mark Connelly.
The Panthers tacked on one insurance run in the eighth as
Luke Seidel scored on a wild pitch and
Mike Edwards finished it in the ninth.
The senior worked a clean inning with one strikeout to pick up his first save of the season.
DeYoung and
Ty Olejnik each finished with two hits apiece for MKE.
Game two of the series with the Norse is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 2. Live coverage links available on
