MADISON, Wis. –McKenzie Sanchez,
Jared Kleczka, and
Julie Rebek of the Milwaukee men's and women's diving team competed on day one of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships on Monday in Madison at the Soderholm Aquatic Center.
Sanchez, the Horizon League runner-up on both boards, tallied a score of 226.05 in the prelims on the one-meter board to place 37th in the field of 48 divers.
"McKenzie battled all day in a very tough contest today," Diving coach
Todd Hill said. "Proud of how she competed and I know she is looking forward to the three-meter contest tomorrow."
Rebek also competed on the one-meter boards, finishing 47th with a total of 197.60.
"Julie did a nice job for her first time at a meet of this caliber," Hill said. "Qualifying for this meet her freshman year is quite an accomplishment. She has a bright future going forward."
In a field of 26 divers on the men's three-meter board, Kleczka posted a prelim score of 268.95 to place 23rd.
"Jared held his own in the three-meter which had some of the best divers in the country," Hill commented. "Proud of how he competed today."
The competition continues tomorrow with the three-meter board on the women's side and one-meter on the men's side. Sanchez will compete in the three-meter while Kleczka and
Adam St. John will dive on the one-meter with both beginning at 11 a.m.
