Buwalda and Rechlicz Sign NLI with MKE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Jorey Buwalda and Payton Rechlicz have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Milwaukee women's basketball team, head coach Kyle Rechlicz officially announced Wednesday.

"We are very excited to announce our 2023 recruiting class," Rechlicz said. "They bring diverse skill sets and a level of toughness that will surely elevate our program. All of them are great people and come from amazing high school teams, AAU programs, and families. I know the Panther fans will enjoy watching them in the future."

Buwalda enters her senior season this year at Randolph High School looking to cap an already outstanding prep career. Last season, the forward averaged 13.9 points and 9.3 rebounds to lead the Rockets to an undefeated 31-0 record and first-ever WIAA Division 5 state championship. She was named Trailways West Conference Player of the Year and first team all-state as a junior and has earned an all-conference nod each season.

"There is no other way to put it - Jorey is a winner. When we had a scholarship open up mid-summer, she was the first post we wanted to go after," Rechlicz stated. "She has the physicality to defend the low post but is also skilled enough to score on the perimeter. She fits our system well. We know that she will be a great fit here at Milwaukee."

Rechlicz is beginning her final season at Menomonee Falls. Prior to missing last year due to injury, she was named Greater Metro Second Team All-Conference both freshman and sophomore seasons. Rechlicz posted 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds over those two seasons with the Phoenix.

"Payton is our glue player in this class. She is a hybrid guard/forward that makes everyone else around her better by always doing the little things and she does everything with grit and determination," Rechlicz commented. "Her ability to step out and shoot on the perimeter will benefit us as well. She has been around the Milwaukee program for many years and has a lot of pride for Panther Basketball."
