Wenzel Leads MKE at Horizon League Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Trevor Wenzel placed sixth on Saturday to help lead the Milwaukee men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Horizon League Championships.

For his top-10 finish, Wenzel was named All-Horizon League First Team.

"They put themselves in a position early to go after something, so I was proud of them for that. Trevor was in the lead pack all the way with 1,000 meters to go and gave himself a chance," head coach Andrew Basler said. "It was a great effort. As we add depth to this team, we're going to be moving up. Very proud of the guys and thought we ran extremely well."

Wenzel crossed the line in 24:56.6, just under six seconds away from a top-five finish.

Ian Nadolski was the next Panthers' finisher at 25:53.6 to place him 22nd followed by Aidan Sodemann who crossed in 26:06.7 to score 29th.

Bryce Tome and Gavin Czarnecki capped the Panthers' scoring at 42nd and 54th, respectively.

Racing in his first championships, Carter Eckhoff finished the course in 27:16.6 for Milwaukee.

"We knew everyone was going to have to have a good day to crack the top three. Trevor put himself in it and fought for a title," associate head coach Jake Reilly commented. "He's done a fantastic job leading the charge meet in, meet out. The effort was there, the execution was there, but we were just a little bit off and didn't have the opportunity to improve. No fault to our guys, they did everything they could."
