Panthers Pick Up a Pair in Michigan

Milwaukee combined for 22 hits and 23 runs in a Friday sweep

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Thanks to a pair of breakout innings and a solid bullpen, the Milwaukee baseball team earned two wins over Oakland University on Friday. The Panthers routed the Golden Grizzlies 15-2 in game one of the doubleheader and followed with an 8-5 victory in game two.

With the two wins on Friday, the Panthers extend their winning streak to seven games, the longest since winning eight from April 24 to May 2 in 2013.

Milwaukee broke it open early in game one, putting up 10 runs on four walks and seven hits.

Oakland scored single runs in the third and fourth, but Jack Kraus added the exclamation point in the fifth, hammering a three-run homer to right to put the Panthers up 14-2.

Riley Frey yet again worked a solid start, pitching five innings and scattering just three hits. The freshman struck out eight to earn his first collegiate win.

Patrick Tomfohrde finished the blowout, striking out a pair and allowing just one hit in the final two innings.

After battling back and forth in game two, the Panthers took control in the sixth inning. Milwaukee grabbed a 7-4 advantage thanks to three straight RBI singles and the bullpen took care of the rest.

Andrew Neu, James Severson, and AJ Blubaugh combined to pitch six innings out of the pen, striking out nine and allowing zero earned runs.

Oakland plated an unearned run in the seventh, but Adam LaRock matched that with an RBI single in the ninth and Blubaugh struck out three to earn his second straight save.

Luke Seidel finished the day 5-for-8 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Mitchell Buban went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBI, and a pair of walks.

Kraus extended his hitting streak to eight games, highlighted by the three-run homer in game one.

Milwaukee and Oakland will meet again tomorrow to wrap up the series with a 12:00 pm doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for seven innings followed by a nine-inning contest. Live stats can be found on MKEPanthers.com.
