ROCHESTER, Mich. –
Marcus Cline hit a bases-clearing double in the eighth inning to help the Milwaukee baseball team secure the series win over Oakland with a 14-13 victory in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
"It was a battle for both teams to get outs with extremely tough conditions to pitch in," head coach
Scott Doffek commented. "It was getting dark out and we were down one but didn't quit. We got a two out rally and [Marcus] Cline hits an absolute missile to clear the bases."
Trailing by a run with two outs in the eight,
Conner Goodman tallied his fourth hit of the game, a single to right field to keep the Panthers alive.
After a pair of walks to load the bases, Cline laced a double to right center to clear the bases and put Milwaukee in front 14-12.
Oakland (9-18, 3-13 Horizon League) got a solo home run off of
AJ Blubaugh in the bottom half, but the Panthers escaped with a victory after the game was called due to darkness after eight innings.
The Panthers (10-13, 10-6 Horizon League) hit four home runs in the game including three in the second inning. Goodman finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI. He becomes the first Panther to hit multiple home runs in a game since
Zach Nogalski on May 24, 2019.
"Just an unbelievable game by Goodman," Doffek said. "Extremely happy for him as he has worked his tail off."
In game one, the Panthers had a tough time hitting the zone as the Milwaukee staff totaled nine walks.
Milwaukee struck first with four runs in the first inning, but Oakland responded to score in each of the first four inning including a four-run fourth to go up 8-4.
Luke Seidel doubled in
Jack Cavanaugh but it was too little, too late as the Golden Grizzlies took game three of the four-game series.
"Honestly, we did not play all that well here this weekend, but to win the series in tough conditions, we'll take it," Doffek said.
Seidel had a solid day at the plate, going 5-for-10 with five RBI and a pair of runs scored, Cavanaugh finished 4-for-7 with three runs and two RBI in the split.
Milwaukee will return home to open a 16-game home stretch beginning with Youngstown State on April 9. Live coverage for all home games can be found on
