ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio's Spencer Harbert hit three home runs to lead the Bobcats past Milwaukee 14-3 on Friday afternoon.
"We knew going in, it was going to be a heck of a challenge with Rock on the mound," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "He's one of the best arms in the country and it showed."
Ohio's Joe Rock, who is coming off a no-hitter in his previous appearance, scattered five hits and struck out 12 in 6.0 innings.
The Panthers (0-4) got to Rock with a two-run shot from
Nate DeYoung but not before the Bobcats (3-3) used the long ball to build a lead.
"It was a tight game midway through until they broke it open with the long ball," Doffek continued. "We just have to get some jitters out of our young guys on the mound. Tomorrow is a new day and another good challenge."
Ohio totaled four home runs in the game to build a double-digit advantage through six innings.
DeYoung responded with his shot in the seventh and
Cherokee LeBeau drove in
Ty Olejnik in the eighth, but that was all the Panthers could push across.
Both DeYoung and
Mitchell Buban finished with two hits apiece while Olejnik hit a triple in a pinch-hit appearance.
Jack Mahoney took the loss, giving up eight runs on six hits in four innings. He struck out five but walked four in his second outing of the year.
The Panthers and Bobcats will meet again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm CT. Live stat links for the two games can be found on
