Women's Swimming & Diving Will Montreal

Panthers Showcase Depth In Win

MKE defeat Wheaton Friday evening

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team continued its strong start the season, defeating Wheaton (Ill.) on Friday evening 160-44.

For the third consecutive week, the team showcased its depth, placing scorers in the top two in nearly every event. The Panthers finished with eight individual victories and six runner-up finishes at the meet, along with a pair of relay wins.

"Always an important meet for us as we build throughout the year," head coach Kyle Clements said. "It's the last meet before our midseason championship and it gives us the opportunity to swim events that we typically don't get to swim during a normal dual meet lineup. We saw a lot of different people in a lot of different events and we saw a lot of lifetime bests and a lot of season bests."

Bella Passamani collected a win in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:56.82. Kelen McDaniels finished runner-up in the event, touching the wall at 1:58.50.

Freshman Nhia Caras tallied her fifth individual win of the season, taking home the top spot in the 100 butterfly (58.00). Megan Greenley placed second in the event with a time of 1:00.70.

In the 50 free, Molly Meland and Makaila Scheiblein finished in the top two spots. Meland posted a time of 24.95 while Scheiblein finished close behind at 25.43.

Four other Panthers placed first in their first respective events, as Giulia Guerra Montes (400 IM), Amber Secrist (100 backstroke), Jenna Fistler (500 free), and Betsy Weil (100 breaststroke) all collected wins.

Milwaukee claimed victories in both relays, placing first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.55 and first in the 200 free behind a time of 1:39.34.

Milwaukee will have a week off before traveling for the House of Champions Invitational, hosted by IUPUI. The four-day meet begins on Wednesday, November 17 in Indianapolis, Ind.

"Really happy with today, a lot of standout swims and a lot of standout people," Clements said. "Very important as we move forward to get those swims down as we prepare for our midseason championships next week."
