MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Following a 16-2 record and Horizon League regular-season title, the Milwaukee volleyball team pulled in multiple major awards when the league office announced the all-league teams on Thursday afternoon.
Ari Miller was named Horizon League Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year,
Rylie Vaughn earned Setter of the Year honors, and
Madi Malone was named Freshman of the Year.
Carmen Heilemann also joined the trio on All-League First Team. The four Panthers on First Team marks the most for Milwaukee since 2011.
Miller joins a group of nine other Panthers to be named Horizon League Player of the Year and first since Rachel Neuberger in 2013. The Offensive Player of the Year nod is the first for Milwaukee since the league started handing out the award in 2016. It also marks Miller's third straight season as a member of the First Team All-League team joining Neuberger and Chrissy Schurla (1999-00) as the only three-time members in program history.
She has been a game-changer for the Panthers in the middle of the floor and leads the league in attack percentage (.388) while ranking fourth in kills (3.56/set) and points per set (4.10). Miller was honored with four Horizon League Player of the Week honors, the most by any player this season.
Vaughn took the reins of the Milwaukee offense during league play and led the league with 11.57 assists per set to go with 3.43 digs per frame. The award marks the first Setter of the Year honor for the Panthers since the league started recognizing the award in 2014. Vaughn has put up 16 double-doubles this season including three 20-20 matches and became the fifth player in program history to total over 2,000 assists and 1,000 digs.
Malone became the Panthers' third Freshman of the Year winner and first since Miller in 2019 after putting together an impressive first season for the black and gold. The Newark, Ill. native racked up 371 kills and 283 digs while hitting .252, all of which rank in the top 10 all-time for Milwaukee freshman.
It was also a career-year for Heilemann, who earned a spot on the First Team for the second consecutive season. The fifth-year senior set new career-highs in kills (368), attack percentage (.353), aces (30), and digs (121). Heilemann was named Horizon League Player of the Week three of the final four weeks of the season.
As the overall No. 1 seed, the Panthers will host the Horizon League Tournament which will begin on Friday, November 19 from the Klotsche Center.
