MILWAUKEE – Patrick Baldwin Jr. of the Milwaukee men's basketball team has been named the Horizon League Nike® Freshman of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.
Baldwin Jr. opened up his collegiate career with back-to-back double-doubles, averaging 20 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 90.9 percent from the free throw line (10-of-11) and adding 2.5 assists per game as the Panthers went 1-1.
In his highly-anticipated debut, Baldwin Jr. posted 20 points and 11 boards in the victory against North Dakota, recording the first double-double in a season opener for a Milwaukee freshman since 2008. His 20 points were also the most for an MKE freshman in a season opener since 1999.
He's just the third MKE freshman to win the league honor all-time (it started for the 2013-14 season) and the first since Bryce Nze in January of 2017.
