MILWAUKEE, Wis. –
Megan Walstad of the Milwaukee women's basketball team was named Horizon League Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after leading the Panthers to a series sweep of preseason favorite IUPUI.
The award is the third of the year for Walstad, who was also named Player of the Week on December 14 and January 18.
In two victories over the Jaguars, Walstad averaged 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 71.4 percent (15-for-21) from the floor and going a perfect 5-for-5 at the line.
In Friday's win, Walstad totaled 14 points, eight boards, and a pair of blocks in a 74-66 triumph. After early foul trouble had her on the bench for just five minutes in the first half on Saturday, Walstad came out and dominated in the final 30 minutes. She recorded her league-leading seventh double-double of the season with 23 points on 9-for-11 shooting to go with 11 rebounds to lead the Panthers to an 85-83 double-overtime win over the Jaguars.
Walstad currently ranks ninth in the league in scoring (13.9ppg), second in rebounding (10.1), first in field goal percentage (56.3), second in free throw percentage (91.1), and first in blocks per game (1.6).
Off to its best start in school history at 15-1 and 12-0 in Horizon League action, Milwaukee will return home to the Klotsche Center for a two-game series against Northern Kentucky beginning on Friday, January 29.
