MILWAUKEE – Jordan Lathon has signed with the Milwaukee men's basketball team, head coach
Pat Baldwin announced today.
Lathon joins the Panthers following the past two seasons at UTEP, scoring 445 points and grabbing 275 rebounds in 57 games for the Miners, located in El Paso, Texas.
"College basketball is stacked with tough, physical guards who love to compete," Baldwin said. "We are excited about the signing of Jordan as he brings a high level of physicality, competitiveness and athleticism to the guard position. Jordan has a wealth of college basketball experience. He is extremely competitive and has a chance to be extremely productive for our program and in the Horizon League.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard brings along per-game averages of 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest to Milwaukee. He will sit out next season due to NCAA transfer regulations and have two years of eligibility remaining.
"Jordan is a great teammate, an excellent leader and a tremendous student as well," Baldwin said. "He will be a great asset to our program. Jordan won a high school state championship with Grandview High School and competed on the AAU circuit for Vic Williams and Team YOBO out of Kansas City, Missouri."
This past season he started in 22 of his 30 appearances, leading the team in assists (93/3.1 apg) and with 32 steals. He averaged 5.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, ranking 11
th in Conference USA in assists and second with his 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio. He posted a pair of double-doubles, including a season-high 22-point/11-rebound outing against Marshall in the postseason.
He started all 27 games he played in as a freshman, earning C-USA Freshman of the Week honors on a pair of occasions while playing 32.9 minutes per outing. He tallied per-game averages of 10.9 points and 5.0 rebounds, leading the Miners with 74 assists while finishing second with 23 blocks and 20 steals. He put together the best game of his young career with 32 points and 18 rebounds against Rice.
A four-star recruit ranked as a Top-150 player in the country by 247sports.com out of high school (who had him ranked fifth in the state), he was also ranked as the No. 27 guard by Rivals. He led Grandview High School to a Missouri state title as a senior, helping the Bulldogs go 28-3 overall. Lathon was named to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) All-State Basketball Team after averaging 13 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals per game. His GHS squad won back-to-back district and conference titles his final two seasons and his career included nine double-doubles and one triple-double: posting 15 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists during a victory against Wyandotte. He closed out his prep career averaging 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 81 games.
