Panthers Gear Up for Final Regular Season Road Trip

MKE looks for fifth straight victory against IUPUI on Friday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Milwaukee women's basketball team hits the road for the final time this regular season looking for its fifth straight victory. The Panthers took care of business at the Klotsche Center, winning three straight and next prepare for IUPUI, the top team in the Horizon League.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IUPUI sits alone atop the Horizon League standings thanks to a 13-game win streak. After falling to Youngstown State in the league opener, the Jaguars rattled off 13 straight victories before Northern Kentucky finally ended the streak last Saturday. Despite the loss, IUPUI holds a comfortable three-game cushion at 13-2.

Led by front-runner for Horizon League Player of the Year Macee Williams, IUPUI boasts the most potent offense and stiffest defense in the league. Among other categories, Williams leads the league in rebounds per game (9.0), double-doubles (12), and field goal percentage (61.1). Williams (17.8 points) and Rachel McLimore (10.7) both average double digits for the Jaguars.

IUPUI is shooting 46.1 percent from the floor and 35.8 percent from three-point range which leads the Horizon League.

LAST TIME THEY MET
IUPUI could not miss on January 19, earning a 75-52 win at Milwaukee. The Jaguars shot over 50 percent from the floor and from three-point range. Sydney Staver led the Panthers with 10 points while Brandi Bisping totaled eight points, nine rebounds, and three steals.

SERIES HISTORY
IUPUI holds a 4-1 all-time advantage over Milwaukee and has won three straight against the Panthers. MKE did earn a 67-60 victory over the Jaguars in Indianapolis on February 19, 2018.

WHATS ON TAP?
Following Friday's game, Milwaukee will head to Chicago for its final regular season road game on Sunday. The Panthers will then host Youngstown State and Cleveland State in Milwaukee before Horizon League Tournament action.

LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers exploded for 27 points in the fourth quarter to topple Detroit Mercy 76-51 on Sunday afternoon. The Titans erased a 16-point halftime deficit and pulled within six before the Panthers turned it on late to earn their fourth straight victory.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Thanks to an impressive week, Brandi Bisping earned her first-career Horizon League Player of the Week award. The junior averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in a pair of victories. Bisping shot 61.9 percent (13-for-21) from the floor, 60 percent (3-for-5) from three-point range, and was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line in the weekend sweep. The award is her first and also the first for a Panther since December 23, 2018 when Lizzie Odegard earned the honor. Bisping was also named Horizon League Player of the Week by the College Sports Madness website.

POUR ON THE POINTS
The Panthers dominated in their latest victory, earning a 76-51 win over Detroit Mercy. The 25-point victory is the largest margin since Milwaukee topped Oakland 83-53 on February 23, 2019, a span of 29 games.

THE WINNING NUMBERS
The Panthers have now stretched their winning streak to four games, the longest streak since January 10-20 of last season. During that streak, Milwaukee has put up some impressive numbers.
  • 47.9 FG%
  • 45.9 3PT%
  • 86 FT%
  • 73.0 PPG
  • 39.5 RPG (+10 margin)
  • 16.25 APG
LATE SEASON SUCCESS
The Panthers are no strangers to a late run. With eight games remaining on the schedule a season ago, Milwaukee finished 5-3 to improve its standing in the Horizon League. The Panthers have now won four in a row to start the final stretch of eight games here in 2020.

THRIVING FROM THREE
Much of Milwaukee's recent success has been in part due to its three-point shooting. During the Panthers' current four-game winning streak, MKE is 39-for-85 (45.9 percent) from downtown, hitting at least 11 triples in three of the four contests. In Milwaukee's 11 victories this year, the Panthers are shooting 39.7 percent from deep. In the 14 losses, Milwaukee is shooting just 24.5 percent from three-point range.

ON FIRE FROM THE FLOOR
After a long stretch of shooting less than 40 percent (14 games this year), Milwaukee has found some rhythm on the offensive end as of late. The Panthers have hit at least 42 percent of their shots from the floor in five of the last six games, winning each of those four.

REIT ON!
Senior Jamie Reit has found her shot as of late, reaching double digits in five straight contests. The senior notched her first career double-double against Green Bay with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Over the last five games, Reit is averaging 14.6 points and 7.4 rebounds while shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from three-point range. When Reit hits at least two three-pointers, the Panthers are 6-1 this season.

CONVERTING FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE
Over the last ten games, Milwaukee is 124-156 (79.5 percent) from the free throw line, which would put them first in the Horizon League. Milwaukee is shooting 74.3 percent from the stripe this season, over 70 points better than last year's mark of 66.8 percent.

CLEANING UP THE GLASS
Milwaukee's rebounding dominance continued on Sunday. The Panthers have outrebounded their opponent in 10 of the last 12 games, recording a positive margin of 7.0 during that stretch. Over the last four games, MKE holds a positive rebounding margin of 10.3. The Panthers are currently fifth in the Horizon League with a rebounding margin of 4.5. Milwaukee has six games with a positive rebounding margin of more than 10, earning victories in each.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
In the win over Detroit Mercy, Milwaukee had four players reach double figures. When the Panthers have at least four players score at least 10 points, they are 4-1 this year.

MAGIC NUMBERS
60: When holding an opponent to less than 60 points, the Panthers are 5-1. When Milwaukee scores at least 60 points, the team holds a 11-3 record this year. When MKE scores less than 60, the Panthers are 0-11.

40: When shooting at least 40 percent this season, Milwaukee is 9-2. On the other side of the ball, the Panthers are 4-10 when the opponent shoots at least 40 percent.

34: When the Panthers hit at least 34 percent of their three-point attempts, Milwaukee is 9-3.

15: When Milwaukee dishes out at least 15 assists, the Panthers are 6-3.

10: When the Panthers outrebound their opponents by at least 10, Milwaukee is 6-0 this year.

A LINEUP CONSTANT
After logging minutes in both games this past weekend, redshirt senior Alyssa Fischer matched Jenny Lindner (2014-18) for most games played all-time for Milwaukee in NCAA Division I. Fischer and Lindner have appeared in 128 career games.

SOMETHING TO PROVE
Milwaukee was predicted to finish fifth in this year's Horizon League preseason poll. The Panthers earned 57 total poll points and were picked to come in behind Green Bay, Wright State, IUPUI, and Youngstown State. In the 2018-19 preseason poll, Milwaukee was also chosen to finish fifth in the Horizon League.
