MKE Hosts Oakland for College of Nursing Pink Game

The Panthers look for season split against the Golden Grizzlies

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee women's basketball team aims to extend its winning streak to three as the Panthers host Oakland University on Valentine's Day for the annual Pink Game, sponsored by the UW-Milwaukee College of Nursing. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm from the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers will have pink long sleeve t-shirts available for FREE with a minimum $5 donation to Chix4aCause. Additionally, pink game-worn jerseys will be available via silent auction. All proceeds will benefit Chix4aCause.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Since topping Milwaukee on Saturday, January 11, Oakland has dropped five of its last seven games. The Golden Grizzlies earned wins over Detroit Mercy and UIC, but most recently fell to IUPUI 89-63.

Much of Oakland's fast paced offense relies on Kahlaijah Dean and Jalisha Terry, who combine for 24.8 points and 6.4 assists per game in conference play. Chloe Guingrich has also been a factor. The junior missed the last game against the Panthers but is averaging 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 58.3 percent in 10 games of Horizon League action.

Oakland is also quick on the defensive end, ranking third in the league in steals per game (7.92). The Golden Grizzlies also rank third in the Horizon League in scoring, cashing in for 66.3 points per game, but allow a league-worst 71.7 points per contest.

LAST TIME THEY MET
The Panthers struggled from long range in early January, finishing just 3-for-21 in a 78-62 loss to Oakland in Michigan. Milwaukee had four score in double digits led by Brandi Bisping's 15 points, but couldn't keep pace with the Golden Grizzlies, who shot 48.4 percent from the floor.

SERIES HISTORY
Milwaukee is hanging on to a 9-7 all-time advantage against Oakland in NCAA Division I. The Panthers have won four of the last six matchups and are 4-3 in Milwaukee against the Golden Grizzlies. Over the last six contests against Oakland, the Panthers are averaging 75.8 points per game.

WHATS ON TAP?
Following Friday's game, Milwaukee has a quick turnaround as it hosts Detroit Mercy on Sunday, February 16 before hitting the road for one final regular season trip this year.

LAST TIME OUT
Thanks to a huge second half effort from Jamie Reit and five players scoring in double digits, the Panthers hung on for a 65-60 victory over Green Bay on Saturday afternoon. Reit scored all 13 of her points in the second half, locking down her first career double-double and helping the Panthers earn their second straight victory.

WINNING STREAK!
With the victory on Saturday, Milwaukee won consecutive games for the first time this season. That marks the latest winning streak in a season since 2012-13 when the Panthers' first back-to-back wins was on February 16 and 21.

PERFECT FROM THE STRIPE
Milwaukee finished perfect from the free throw line on Saturday, hitting all 10 of their attempts. That marked the first time the Panthers didn't have a miss from the charity stripe since going 11-for-11 against Green Bay on December 28, 2018. In fact, neither team missed a free throw on Saturday, combining to go 13-for-13, the first time that has happened since March 15, 2018 when MKE and UNI also combined to finish 13-for-13.

LIGHT IT UP FROM LONG RANGE
Milwaukee knocked down 11 three-pointers for the second straight game, hitting over 40 percent of its triples. The Panthers are 22-for-47 (46.8 percent) in the last two games. Milwaukee has won three of the last four games and combined for 29 triples in those three victories, hitting at a 45.3 percent clip.

REIT ON!
Senior Jamie Reit has found her shot as of late, reaching double digits in three straight contests. The senior notched her first career double-double against Green Bay with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Over the last three games, Reit is averaging 13.0 points and 7.7 rebounds while shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from three-point range. When Reit hits at least two three-pointers, the Panthers are 5-1 this season.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Milwaukee had five players reach double figures for the first time this season. The last time the Panthers had five score in double digits was a 72-60 victory over Green Bay on February 17, 2017. Milwaukee's entire starting five scored at least 10 points against the Phoenix on that date.

GETTING IN THE GROOVE
With 14 games this season shooting less than 40 percent, the Panthers strength hasn't necessarily been on the offensive end. Milwaukee is starting to change that, however. The Panthers have won three of the last four games thanks to their impressive offensive output. In those three games, Milwaukee is shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, 45.3 percent from three-point range, and 82.7 percent from the free throw line. The Panthers also have a positive rebounding margin of 8.0.

CLEANING UP THE GLASS
Milwaukee's rebounding dominance continued on Saturday. The Panthers have outrebounded their opponent in eight of the last 10 games, recording a positive margin of 5.7 during that stretch. The Panthers are currently fourth in the Horizon League with a rebounding margin of 3.3. Milwaukee has four games with a positive rebounding margin of more than 10, earning victories in each.

SHAKING THE 4TH QUARTER STRUGGLES
After shooting just 14.9 percent (11-for-74) from three-point range in the fourth quarter over the last 13 games, Milwaukee knocked down three of seven triples on Saturday. The Panthers have had trouble hitting from long range in the final period this season, going 34-for-134, but held on to the lead for the win over Green Bay.

MAGIC NUMBERS
60: When holding an opponent to less than 60 points, the Panthers are 4-1. When Milwaukee scores at least 60 points, the team holds a 9-3 record this year. When MKE scores less than 60, the Panthers are 0-11.

41: When Milwaukee pulls in at least 41 rebounds, the Panthers are 5-3. MKE's wins outside of that are when they have grabbed 40, 38, and 28 rebounds.

40: When shooting at least 40 percent this season, Milwaukee is 7-2. On the other side of the ball, the Panthers are 4-10 when the opponent shoots at least 40 percent.

34: When the Panthers hit at least 34 percent of their three-point attempts, Milwaukee is 7-3.

15: When Milwaukee dishes out at least 15 assists, the Panthers are 5-3.

RECORD WATCH
Redshirt Alyssa Fischer is closing in on the all-time games played record at Milwaukee. Fischer has played in 126 total games in her career which currently second all-time. Jenny Lindner (2014-18) holds the record, appearing in 128 career games.

500 CLUB
With 147 rebounds this year, Lizzie Odegard joined the 500-rebound club for Milwaukee. The redshirt senior became the 26th Panthers player to reach the milestone. Odegard currently leads the Panthers this season with an average of 6.4 rebounds per game.

CONVERTING FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE
Over the last eight games, Milwaukee is 97-125 (77.6 percent) from the free throw line, which would put them second in the Horizon League in conference play. Milwaukee is shooting 73.1 percent from the stripe this season, over 60 points better than last year's mark of 66.8 percent.
