MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee women's basketball team has been predicted to finish seventh in the Horizon League, announced by the league office Friday morning. Following a spot on the All-League Third Team a season ago, senior
Brandi Bisping was selected to the Preseason Second Team.
Voted on by the league coaches, the Panthers totaled 76 poll points to sit in seventh of 12 teams.
The Panthers graduated a pair of important starters but have plenty of firepower returning for the 2020-21 campaign. Milwaukee closed the year as one of the hottest teams in the league, winning seven of the final eight regular season games. MKE picked up another win in the Horizon League Tournament before closing the year against Northern Kentucky.
Bisping had a breakout year in 2019-20 as she was named All-Horizon League Third Team after leading the team with 9.0 points per game and ranking second with 5.9 rebounds per game. The Morton, Ill. native also led the Horizon League and ranked fourth in the NCAA with a free throw percentage of 90.8, a school record for a junior.
Macee Williams of IUPUI was named Preseason Player of the Year for the third straight year and was joined on first team by Mariah White (Cleveland State), Ally Niece (Northern Kentucky), Angel Baker (Wright State), and Chelsea Olson (Youngstown State).
Defending Horizon League Champion IUPUI collected all 12 first-place votes and was predicted to take the top spot with 144 total poll points. Green Bay (120 poll points) edged out Wright State (118) for the second spot while Northern Kentucky (105) was picked to finish fourth.
Newcomer Robert Morris pulled in 88 poll points while Youngstown State was predicted to finish sixth with 84 just ahead of the Panthers.
The Horizon League schedule kicks off on December 12 and runs for 10 weeks with no League games scheduled for December 21-31. The Panthers open with a pair of games at Green Bay.
