MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After a much-anticipated wait, the Milwaukee women's basketball team, who enters its 50th season of competition, learned it will open Horizon League play on December 12. The entire conference schedule was released on Wednesday afternoon by the Horizon League office.
Due to COVID-19 and the safety precautions and guidelines associated with the pandemic, the Horizon League schedule has a little different look this season. The conference season will be a 20-game slate with games on consecutive days against the same opponent.
Ninth-year head coach
Kyle Rechlicz's squad will open league play with a two-game set at Green Bay on December 12-13. Following opening weekend, Milwaukee will welcome new league member Robert Morris University to the Klotsche Center for a pair of home games on December 19-20.
After a holiday break away from conference play, MKE will head to Detroit Mercy for a New Year's doubleheader, facing the Titans on January 1 and January 2.
The Panthers will then host six of the next eight games on their home floor starting with another new member Purdue Fort Wayne on January 8-9. Cleveland State steps into the Klotsche Center on January 15-16 and after a trip to IUPUI on January 22-23, the Panthers welcome Northern Kentucky to Milwaukee on January 29-30.
MKE hits the road to begin February, starting with a trip to Wright State for a pair of contests on February 5-6. After hosting one final weekend, Oakland on February 12-13, the Panthers wrap up the Horizon League slate at UIC on February 19-20.
All game times will be announced at a later date as well as information on the 2021 Horizon League Championship.
Guided by the principle of safety, the scheduling model was developed in consultation with the League's Return to Safe Play work group, athletic directors, senior woman administrators and faculty athletic representatives, with additional feedback provided by the Horizon League men's and women's basketball coaches and student-athlete captain's council.
