Panthers Close Out Day One Of Competition

Competition continues tomorrow at the UI Armory

URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Milwaukee men's and women's track and field team competed in the multi-events on day one at the Illini Invitational on Friday evening at the UI Armory in Urbana-Champaign, Ill.
 
On the women's side, sophomore Jada Schuh and senior Leah Lenling both competed in the pentathlon, placing third and fourth respectively. Schuh finished with 2,864 points while Lenling was right behind with 2,839 points.
 
Schuh grabbed a pair of third-place finishes in both the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.51 and in long jump with a mark of 4.94m (16-2 1/2). The sophomore then threw for a personal record mark of 8.95m (29-4 1/2) in shot put for fifth place. She also finished fifth in high jump, clearing the bar at 1.39m (4-6 3/4) and clocked in with a time of 2:41.85 in the 800m.
 
Lenling highlighted her night with a second-place finish in high jump with a height of 1.39m (4-6 3/4). The senior also finished sixth in both the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.95 and in long jump with a mark of 4.57m (15-0). Lenling claimed a seventh-place finish in shot put with a heave of 8.25m (27-1) and finished with a time of 2:41.55 in the 800m.
 
After day one and four events, freshman Tony Bretall sits in third place in the heptathlon with 2,447 points. Bretall finished sixth in both the 60m dash with a time of 7.67 and in long jump with a mark of 5.63m (18-5 3/4).
 
Bretall then launched a distance of 10.9m (35-9 1/4) in shot put for fourth place. The freshman closed out the night with his highest finish of the day, placing second in high jump with a new personal record height of 1.93m (6-4).
 
The Sheboygan Falls native will compete tomorrow in the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m race to close out the heptathlon.
 
UP NEXT ON THE BLOCKS
The Panthers resume action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for day two of the Illini Invitational.
