MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Trevor Schwecke of the Milwaukee baseball team was named a member of the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Baseball Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Being honored on one of the three 11-member national teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), is the highest academic honor possible in NCAA Division I baseball.
Schwecke earned a spot on the Second Team Academic All-America squad – the first of his career. The Actuarial Science & Statics major has maintained a 3.922 cumulative grade-point average and has been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team and League Academic Honor Roll in his career.
The Marshfield (Wis.) native is a three-time All-Horizon League honoree, earning Second-Team the first two seasons of his career and First-Team as a junior. This season, Schwecke racked up career-best numbers and ranked towards the top in most of the league's major offensive categories throughout the season. He was also shortlisted as a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, which recognizes the nation's top collegiate shortstop.
Schwecke finished his junior campaign with a .335 batting average with 74 hits, 20 doubles, three triples, four home runs and a team-best 54 RBI. On Wednesday, June 5, the decorated shortstop was drafted in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 13
th round and 387
th overall.
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Baseball Teams feature 15 members with a 4.0 GPA or higher and 26 members with at least a 3.90 GPA as either undergraduate or graduate student-athletes. The 12 members on the first team have an average GPA of 3.98.
Schwecke is the fourth Milwaukee baseball player to earn the honor in program history, joining Luke Meeteer (Third Team 2016), Sam Koenig (First Team 2015) and Tim Patzman (Second Team 2010).
