Trio of Panthers Earn Academic All-District Honors

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Trevor Schwecke, Matt Quartel and Joe Vyskocil of the Milwaukee baseball team have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic First-Team All-District Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA), the organization announced Thursday afternoon.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Divisino II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Shcwecke, Quartel, and Vyskocil are earning the honor for the first time in their careers.
 
Schwecke is a two-time Second-Team All-Horizon League Honoree, and has consistently been ranked in the top-five of the major offensive categories in the Horizon League throughout the 2019 season. The Actuarial Science & Statistics major has maintained a 3.985 cumulative grade-point average and has been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team and league Academic Honor Roll in his career.
 
Senior Matt Quartel has been a steady rock for the Panther team throughout his four-year career. The Sturgeon County native has totaled 97 hits, 20 doubles, three triples and 55 RBI for a career stat line, and has consistently stayed in the top-25 in league batting average. Quartel is a Biochemistry major with a 3.911 cumulative grade-point average.
 
Joining Schwecke and Quartel is Joe Vyskocil who has enjoyed a breakout season with career-highs in all categories across the board. He has been in the Top 10 all season in the Horizon League in home runs and RBI, and his .347 overall batting average is currently fifth in the conference. Vyskocil is a Biomedical Engineering major with a 3.799 cumulative grade-point average.
 
As First-Team honorees, the trio represent District 6 and will advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot later this month. The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
