dMILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee Panther baseball team put on a show Saturday afternoon from Miller Park defeating the Oakland Golden Grizzlies by a score of 13-1. Milwaukee had a balanced attack both from the mound and at the plate to improve to 29-17-1, 16-9 with the win.
The Panther senior class did a number on the Oakland (10-33, 8-15) on the pitching staff accounting for nine of the Panther 14 hits, while senior starting pitcher
Jared Reklaitis (7-4) who silenced the Golden Grizzly lineup allowing just one run, four hits, and four strikeouts through 6.1 innings.
Tied at one a piece after three and a half, Milwaukee's
Oakland Scanlan broke said tie with a single through the left side scoring
Colin Kreiter and
Joe Vyskocil who got on by way of walk for a 3-1 advantage. The offense didn't stop there, however.
The next inning, Milwaukee erupted for four runs on four hits – all after two outs. After back-to-back singles from Kreiter and Bordner scoring one each, pinch hitter
Jack Thelen continued to swing a hot bat when he doubled to left field to extend the Panther lead, 7-1.
Throughout the series, the Black & Gold have taken advantage of the free base, and sixth inning proved no different. After three free bases, senior
Tyler Bordner catapulted a ball over the left field fence for the grand slam, and his second home run of his career at Miller Park. After the grand slam, the Panthers took a commanding 12-1 lead and never looked back.
The Panther bullpen kept the lead in tact when
Jack Mahoney and
Clayton Uselman pitched 2.2 scoreless innings including three strikeouts.
Milwaukee will look to sweep the series with the final game beginning at 12 p.m. Sunday from Henry Aaron Field. Sunday's game will also serve as Senior Day celebrating
