Panthers Carry Momentum into Marquette Matchup

MKE is now 3-0 at the Klotsche Center this season

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee women's basketball team returned home with a victory on Thursday night, improving its record to 3-0 at home. The Panthers look to continue that streak on Sunday as they welcome cross-town foe Marquette to the Klotsche Center.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Marquette is off to a strong start to the 2019-20 season, opening its non-conference schedule 6-2. After three straight wins, the Golden Eagles fell to Northwestern but bounced back to win three of the next four contests.

First year head coach Megan Duffy boasts a relatively young roster with six freshman and eight total underclassmen. A trio of returners has been key for the Golden Eagles thus far with Selena Lott, Isabelle Spingola, and Lauren Van Kleunen all averaging double digit points. Lott leads the team with 16.4 points per game on 57.3 percent shooting.

Marquette, 2018-19 Big East regular season champions, has been tough on the boards, leading the conference and with an average of 39 rebounds per game and a margin of 9.0.

LAST TIME THEY MET
In 2018, the Panthers staged a furious comeback against Marquette, but fell 83-74 at the Klotsche Center. Milwaukee outscored the Golden Eagles 29-20 in the final period. Sydney Levy had a big game for the Panthers, hitting five triples on her way to 19 points. Bre Cera and Megan Walstad joined in double digits with 11.

SERIES HISTORY
Marquette holds an all-time 23-3 advantage over Milwaukee. The Panthers last victory over the Golden Eagles was in 2008 as Milwaukee sank last second free throws for a 63-62 win. Two of MKE's three wins over Marquette have come at the Klotsche Center.

WHATS ON TAP?
Following Sunday's tip, Milwaukee wait until Saturday to face Bowling Green at 1:00 pm. The Panthers remain at the Klotsche Center for three more games after that, hosting until December 30.

LAST TIME OUT
Sydney Levy was unstoppable on Thursday night, drilling eight three-pointers on her way to pouring in a career-high 27 points to help Milwaukee earn a come-from-behind 78-65 victory over Northern Illinois. The Panthers rallied from 10 down in the second half, closing on an 18-2 run to beat the Huskies.

LIGHT IT UP, LEVY!
Sydney Levy could not miss on Thursday night, finishing with 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting. The sophomore set a new career-high with eight three pointers, topping her previous best of seven a season ago. Levy's eight triples matched Jessica Wilhite's number from December 4, 2012 for the second most in program history. The Oshkosh, Wis. native has at least one three-pointer in seven of eight contests this year and is hitting 44.7 percent from long range this year.

ODEGARD OWNS THE PAINT
Lizzie Odegard had a career game as well against Northern Illinois, pulling in 17 rebounds. After totaling 11 rebounds in the first half, Odegard grabbed six more after the break, recording the most rebounds for a Panthers player since Jenny Linder totaled 15 in the 2017-18 season. The senior added nine points and three assists in the win. Odegard upped her season average from 5.8 to 7.3 rebounds per game, which ranks seventh in the Horizon League.

NEARLY PERFECT
Brandi Bisping continued her excellent free throw shooting on Thursday, going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. The junior is now 29-for-31 from the line, a 93.5 percent clip which leads the Horizon League and ranks 10th in the nation. Of the nine players in NCAA Division I ahead of Bisping, only Eva Hodgson of William & Mary has converted more attempts (32).

CHANGE IT UP
Head Coach Kyle Rechlicz put out her fifth different lineup on Thursday, proving the depth of the Panthers. All 12 Milwaukee players have contributed in the points column and 10 different players are averaging at least 13 minutes per game. Additionally, the Panthers have totaled 227 points off the bench, an average of 28.4 per game.

CLEANING UP THE MISCUES
Milwaukee has had some troubles taking care of the ball this year, but the Panthers limited mistakes on Thursday, recording a season low nine turnovers. MKE turned the ball over just two times in the second half and finished the game with an assist-to-turnover ratio of more than 1.0 for the second time this season (1.7).

NON-CONFERENCE RECAP
The Panthers have three remaining non-conference games on their schedule. Milwaukee needs to win at least two of those games to extend its streak to five straight seasons with at least five non-conference wins. After facing Marquette, MKE takes on Bowling Green and North Dakota to wrap up its non-conference schedule.

EVERYONE CHIPPING IN
Sydney Levy became the latest Panthers player to lead the team in scoring on Thursday, making the seventh time in eight games that someone new has taken the reigns. Sydney Staver has led the Panthers scoring attack in two games, but every other game has featured a new face atop the list.

SOMETHING TO PROVE
Milwaukee was predicted to finish fifth in this year's Horizon League preseason poll. The Panthers earned 57 total poll points and were picked to come in behind Green Bay, Wright State, IUPUI, and Youngstown State. In the 2018-19 preseason poll, Milwaukee was also chosen to finish fifth in the Horizon League.
