Walstad Earns Third Horizon League Honor

Freshman ranked 28th in the nation in field goal percentage

MILWAUKEEMegan Walstad of the Milwaukee women's basketball team has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The award is the already the third of the season for the newcomer from Apple Valley, Minn.

Walstad started her week with an incredible performance against IUPUI. She made the most of a season-high 32 minutes on the court with a career-best 21 points on 9-14 shooting (64.3%), including a pair of threes from the post player. She was also very clutch, hitting a shot with 3.3 seconds left in regular to send the game into overtime before scoring the first bucket in the extra frame. Walstad also added four rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists in Thursday's thriller.

Then, playing significantly less minutes in a lopsided win on Saturday, Walstad still finished with six points, six rebounds and four assists  nearly all coming in the first half.

The freshman now owns a 56.7 (102-180) shooting percentage on the season, ranking her 28th in the nation in that category.

Up next for Walstad and the Panthers is a trip north to take on in-state rival Green Bay Saturday at 1 pm from the Kress Center.
