INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Austin Schulfer and Matt Quartel have been named Horizon League Athletes of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
 
Senior Austin Schulfer set a Milwaukee baseball record in strikeouts with an 8-4 win over Northern Kentucky, Fri., April 6 earning him Pitcher of the Week. Schulfer set the record a season ago with 13. The Plover native went scattered five hits in seven innings of work, allowing three runs, two earned, and striking out 15 Norse batters out of the 21 batters faced. Of the 15 strikeouts, Schulfer struck out the side twice, and had a least two strikeouts for all but one inning.
 
Batter of the Week Matt Quartel swung a hot bat against Northern Kentucky helping the team win the series, 2-1. The junior collected seven hits in 11 at-bats with a slugging percentage of 1.273. Quartel hit safely in each game of the series with a big game against the Norse, Sun., April 8. The Alberta native recorded four hits in the final game of the series coming up just shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and 3 RBI. For the series, Quartel ended with a 7-for-11, six run, two double, one triple, one homerun, four RBI and .692 on-base percentage stat line.
