Basketball just one of many teams Fischer is a part of

MILWAUKEE – Alyssa Fischer – a redshirt junior on the Milwaukee women's basketball team – has a busy schedule.

In addition to being a captain for the Panthers and dealing with the time commitment that comes with being a Division I student-athlete, Fischer also is a big part of a number of extracurricular groups.

She is this year's SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Council) President, a member of Milwaukee's academic board, a member of MKE's Athletes In Action chapter and was chosen by Milwaukee administrators to speak at a national diversity and inclusion meeting at the Final Four last April.

But, despite all the time commitments that Fischer – who will graduate this month and start her graduate program right away next semester – has taken on in addition to her college classes, she views all of her added responsibilities as a positive in her life.

"Being a leader isn't necessarily to have a title, it's more so to serve other people," Fischer said. "Now in my fourth year here, I've learned that helping people is definitely the ultimate goal in life. So, having my nose in a little bit of everything is allowing me to do so."
