CHICAGO, Ill. – Senior
Sara Bentley led the Milwaukee women's swim & dive team with four event wins and set a pool record today in a dual meet at the Myers-McLoraine Pool against the University of Chicago.
Bently began the day helping the 200-yard medley relay team to a first place victory. Bentley,
Jenn Kordik,
Shelby Rozeboom and
Arica Smith timed in at 1:45.54 – a good two seconds ahead of second place Chicago. She also swept the 100 and 200-yard backstroke with times of 56.78 and 2:05.21. Lastly, a year ago, Bentley set the pool record in the 100 IM with a fast time of 59.35. This year, she shaved off nearly four-tenths of a second, setting the new pool record to 58.93.
In addition to Bentley's success, the rest of the women's team performed at a high level as well.
The Panthers placed 1- 2- 3 in three events; the 1000 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
Addison Skogman went the distance winning the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle races with times of 10:35.45 and 5:11.09. In order,
Alena Bodnaruk and
Carissa Schneider followed in at 10:45.84 and 10.56 in the 1000, respectively.
The three Panthers, Skogman, Bodnaruk and Schneider replicated podium finishes in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:11.09, 5:13.39 and 5:18.46.
The 100 freestyle ended in a nose-to-nose finish between UMW as
Shelby Rozeboom won with a photo-finish time of 53.15, while
Arica Smith (53.27) and Emma Helgson (54.31) followed.
On the day, junior
Jenn Kordik won the 100-yard breastroke (1:06.07) and earned a third place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke coming in at 2:26.01 – a little over a second behind the first place Maroon.
Senior
Arica Smith also had herself a day with two event wins and a second place finish. Smith helped the 200-yard medley relay team to a first place finish, and swam a fast 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 24.19 – just ahead of fellow teammate Rozeboom (24.25).
Cassidy Pilo provided additional success for the Panthers taking the 3-meter dive with 280.50 points and an NCAA Zone Cut, while
Carley Thomas came in a close second with 279.23 points.
Milwaukee finally swims in familiar waters as the Panthers return to action Sat., January 20 at the Klotsche Natatorium. The Panthers will celebrate 11 seniors, nine of which serving on the women's side.
