Panthers Open 2017 Spring Training With Milwaukee Brewers

Great experience for players at Maryvale Baseball Park

PHOENIX, Ariz. – For the third-straight year, the Milwaukee baseball team enjoyed a day in sunny Arizona that was the culmination of many efforts between the University and the Milwaukee Brewers. Although the Brewers may have won the contest 11-0, the exhibition contest was a great day for all involved.

Adam Reuss, John Moynihan and Jared Reklaitis all recorded strikeouts against the Big League Brewers in a game that was scoreless until the third.

Billy Quirke had the first hit of the day for Milwaukee with a single to right field to start the fourth inning. Two batters later, the Panthers looked to be in business after Daulton Varsho smoked one up the middle only to see the Brewers turn an impressive double play to end the threat.

Shortstop Mike Ferri also collected a hit for UWM on a line drive to center for another memorable moment from Friday's action.

The game was scoreless until Brewers' top prospect Lewis Brinson roped a homerun just inside the left-field pole to start the third to make it 1-0. Brinson later showed by there is quite a lot of attention around the center fielder when he hit a three run homer that just cleared the centerfield wall to make it 4-0 before the Brewers added another seven the rest of the way.

"There aren't a lot of colleges in the country that get the opportunity to do something like this," Panther head coach Scott Doffek said. "I can't thank the Brewers enough for giving us this opportunity. This is certainly a special experience for the guys on our team."
