PHOENIX, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team enjoyed a day in sunny Arizona that was the culmination of many efforts between the University and the Milwaukee Brewers. Although the Brewers may have won by an 8-0 total on the scoreboard, the exhibition contest was a great day for all involved.
Â
Neither team had a hit through the first three innings, highlighted by Milwaukee senior
Joe Pavlovich striking out Adam Lind, Khris Davis and Gerardo Parra in the second inning.
Â
Senior
Derek Peake came up with the first hit of the day, singling with one out in the top of the fourth inning. He stole second but was stranded.
Â
It stayed scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Davis lashed a two-run single to left to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead over the Panthers.
Â
Juan Centeno singled to right to score Matt Clark and Logan Schafer to make it 4-0 in the seventh and the Brewers would add four more the rest of the way.
Â
The Panthers may have had a tough time with the Brewers pitching, but played well defensively. They turned three double plays and added a fantastic play in the field to end the fifth. Senior
Tell Taylor made a great stop on a chopper to his right, throwing perfectly to senior
Justin Jaquish who was covering first base.
