Milwaukee vs. IUPUI

November 19, 2014
UWM Panther Arena – 7 p.m.
WISN (AM 1130); Time Warner Cable SportsChannel/ESPN3

THE OPENING TIP
• Milwaukee, which is will play its third game in six days when it faces IUPUI, has won four straight and eight of its last 11 home games versus non-Horizon League opponents. The Panthers have also prevailed in each of their last five games when allowing fewer than 60 points.

• Guard Justin Jordan was named Horizon League Freshman of the Week Monday following his sparkling performance at Auburn in his collegiate debut last Friday. The rookie totaled 11 points, three rebounds and three assists off the bench, hitting 5 of 7 shots from the field. He followed that up with seven boards off the bench against Minnesota-Crookston Monday evening.

• Though it is a small sample size, the Panthers have shot the ball well from long range through two games, knocking down 39 percent (19-for-49) of their triple tries. So far this season, 44 percent (49 of 112) of Milwaukee's field goal attempts have come from beyond the arc. A year ago, the 40 percent of the Panthers' shots were threes.

• Junior forward Matt Tiby was recently named to the 2014-15 Lou Henson Award Watch List. One of 40 players overall and three from the Horizon League named to the list, Tiby averaged 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last year. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Mid-Major Player of the Year.

• Head coach Rob Jeter said the Panthers would replace the offense lost due to the graduation of Jordan Aaron (14.7 ppg) and Kyle Kelm (12.5 ppg) by committee and so far that is proving to be true. Through two games, seven different Milwaukee players have scored in double digits.

ABOUT THE JAGUARS
Coached by former University of Arizona All-American Jason Gardner, who is in his first year with the Jaguars, IUPUI has dropped a pair of contests to in-state rivals Indiana State (79-66 in OT) and Purdue (77-57) to open the 2014-15 campaign. Dating back to last season, IUPU has lost 16 of its last 17 contests with the lone victory coming versus Denver (59-49) on February 13. Redshirt freshman guard Leo Svete leads the Jaguars with 10.0 points per game through the first two outings of the year and is shooting a sizzling 50 percent (6-for-12) from three-point territory. Turnovers have plagued IUPUI thus far as it is committing 18.5 miscues per contest.

SERIES STUFF
Milwaukee and IUPUI are meeting for the seventh time and the Panthers hold a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the teams hooked up, on February 23, 2012 in Indianapolis, Jordan Aaron (28), Demetrius Harris (21) and Paris Gulley (20) each scored 20 or more points but the Panthers needed overtime to slip past the Jaguars. Three players on Milwaukee's current roster saw action in that game - J.J. Panoske finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Austin Arians pitched in nine points, six boards and three assists. Evan Richard pulled down a rebound in nine minutes off the bench. The Panthers are 4-0 all-time versus IUPUI in Milwaukee.
