ST. LOUIS, Mo. (April 14, 2013) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third, but was outscored 7-1 the remainder of the game in falling to Saint Louis 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Billiken Sports Center.

The Panthers (13-16) scored first for the third-straight game, but for the second-straight day allowed the Billikens (25-11) to tie the score in the bottom half of the inning. Seven walks, two hit batters and three errors doomed Milwaukee, as the offense led the hit column 12-10.

"It was a situation where we beat ourselves," UWM head coach Scott Doffek said. "Too many of those runs were the result of walking or hitting batters and putting ourselves under pressure, unnecessary duress. As good as we can be at times, we can be equally bad by beating ourselves. If we can get to a point where we don't beat ourselves, we'll win a lot of ball games."

With a runner on and one out in the third inning, UWM drew a walk and banged out four-straight hits to start the scoring with three runs. RBI doubles by Jonathan Capasso and Pat Wilson and a run-scoring single by Sam Koenig did the damage.

As quickly as the runs came for the Panthers, Saint Louis tied the score just as fast. Back-to-back walks and a bunt single loaded the bases in the bottom half of that frame. It opened the door for a run to score on a wild pitch and then two more on a single by Grant Nelson.

The Billikens took a brief lead after back-to-back singles to open the fifth inning. Braxton Martinez followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3. Then, in the top of the sixth, Milwaukee loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a single, before Will Fadness was hit by a pitch to equal the score at 4-4.

Saint Louis took the lead for good with three runs in the seventh inning. The Panthers got two quick outs before a hit batter and single put runners at the corners. Mike Levine plated the first run on a single and an error on the throw home allowed runners to move up to second and third. Another UWM error, this time on a grounder to first, allowed two runs to score as Levine never stopped running from second.

The Billikens tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning to provide for the final score.

Mike Schneider got the start for Milwaukee, but only lasted into the third as he walked five batters. Justin Jaquish (1-2) was saddled with the loss, allowing two earned runs in four innings of relief. Overall, UWM hurlers walked seven batters and hit two more, three of which came around to score.

The Panthers did well to get to SLU starter Clay Smith early, getting nine hits and three runs in three innings of work. Jon Levin (2-0) was the third Billiken pitcher and earned the win with 2.1 scoreless innings.

Michael Porcaro and Fadness had three hits apiece and each reached base four times to pace the offensive attack. Nick Lingvay and Capasso had a pair of hits apiece, while Lingvay reached a third time with a walk.

Milwaukee returns to action this week with a full slate of home games beginning Tuesday. The Panthers host Wisconsin Lutheran Tuesday, Edgewood College Wednesday and Cardinal Stritch Thursday. Then, they return to league play with a home series against Wright State at the weekend.
