CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Four pitchers from the University of Miami combined to limit the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to seven hits in handing the baseball team a 6-1 loss Saturday night at Mark Light Field.

The Panthers (2-4) failed to take advantage of some early scoring opportunities against the 20th-ranked Hurricanes (6-0) and could never recover.

"I thought we played a fairly clean game," Milwaukee head coach Scott Doffek said. "The box score does not show it, but that's baseball. Miami has really done a good job against us with runners in scoring position on both sides of the ball and we really need to make improvements in that aspect. Our base-running killed a huge chance early on and we just cannot let that happen against good teams."

Sophomores Michael Porcaro (3-for-4) and Luke Meeteer (2-for-4) combined for five of the seven hits on the day. Milwaukee had numerous chances but stranded seven runners and made three other outs on the basepaths.

Miami tallied a run in each of the first two innings and tacked on two more in the fourth and seventh to take a 6-0 lead. The Panthers broke up the shutout in the eighth on singles by Meeteer, Porcaro and senior Jonathan Capasso. They had a chance to really make a dent in the deficit but could not add any hits to the two-on, one-out, rally.

Junior Mike Schneider (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs in 5.0 innings. He walked two and struck out four.

The series concludes Sunday with a noon start.
