MILWAUKEE -
Juniors Becky Yokosh and Emily McClellan each broke two pool records and two more pool relay records fell as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team knocked off UIC 167-133 at the Klotsche Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
Yokosh broke both backstroke records, McClellan reset both breaststroke records and the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams also set new Klotsche records during Milwaukee's Senior Day.
"This was a very good win for us today," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Clements said. "We've had this meet circled because UIC is just such a good dual-meet team and they are very well coached and they are just such a talented team. We knew that we had to do well today and we did. Freshmen through seniors, everyone contributed today. It's about time, but we're figuring things out. It was a real team effort today."
The Panthers kicked things off with a bang as the 200 medley relay won by nearly two seconds in the first swim of the meet. Senior Diandra Prutton, freshman Leah Winckler, sophomore Sierra Townsend and McClellan combined to post a time of 1:46.47, half a second better than the previous pool record.
Yokosh then continued the record-breaking theme, winning the 100 back in 57.19 seconds to break her own pool record set just one week earlier. Freshman Kelsey Abbas was second in the race, just touching out UIC's top swimmer with a time of 59.82.
Then it was McClellan's turn, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 2.72 seconds, besting her own pool record by nearly two seconds. McClellan later broke the 200 breaststroke pool record at 2:17.91, nearly five seconds in front of the next swimmer.
Yokosh grabbed her second record of the day in the 200 backstroke, outdistancing the field by more than six seconds with a time of 2:03.51. Abbas again came in second with a time of 2:09.98 and senior Erika Pliner was third at 2:10.59.
With the meet already in hand, the 200 freestyle relay gave the Panthers one more Klotsche record for the day. Townsend, Yokosh, sophomore Anna Yontz and junior Diana Diel combined to swim 1:36.63, over half a second in front of the previous mark.
Diel also won a pair of events on the day. The junior took the top spot in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.47. Later she won the 100 free at 52.80. McClellan also added one more win for UWM on the day, grabbing the top spot in the 200 IM (2:08.80) with senior Maggi Beck (2:12.59) just behind in second.
In diving, freshman Rachel Margis took second on both boards and senior Aubrey Griffiths was third on both the one-meter and three-meter.
The Panthers continue their busy fall schedule with a trip across the state next weekend, heading to the Stevens Point Border Battle. The five-school meet will start Friday, Nov. 9 and concluded Saturday, Nov. 10.
