Madison, Wis. - Junior Emily McClellan won three events, just missing a pair of NCAA `B' cut times, to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team in their season-opener Friday at Wisconsin.

The Panthers had solid swims across the board, as well as impressive efforts on the diving end in a 175-118 loss to the Badgers.

"Overall we had a solid night," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Clements said. "This was the first step toward getting this team ready for another strong season. We had a lot of great efforts from our freshmen in their first meets and it was nice to finally see them in action."

Coming off an incredible sophomore campaign, McClellan started her junior year with a comfortable win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.70, nearly three seconds in front of the next swimmer. She then won the 200 breast by more than five seconds with a time of 2:16.79. Both just missed this year's NCAA `B' cut standards.

McClellan also won the 200 IM in one of the best races of the night, touching the wall with a time of 2:05.84, just edging out Jennah Haney of Wisconsin by 0.05 seconds to claim her third victory of the night.

The Panthers also had impressive showings on the diving boards as freshman Rachel Margis took third on both the one-meter and three-meter, just missing NCAA Zone scores on both by less than three points combined.

In the 400 medley relay, McClellan teamed up with juniors Becky Yokosh and Diana Diel and freshman Leah Winckler to take second overall with a time of 3:49.96. Yokosh also took second in both the 100 backstroke (57.09) and 200 back (2:05.39) on the night.

Freshman Hope Borland touched the wall third in the 200 fly in her first-ever collegiate meet with a time of 2 minutes, 13.27 seconds. Junior Hilary Woldt was right behind at 2:13.99. Borland later came in second in the 100 fly at 1:01.52.

Abby Duke also had an impressive finish in her collegiate debut, taking second in the 500 free at 5:27.77.

The Panthers return to action again next Friday, heading to Allendale, Mich. for a dual meet with Grand Valley State University set for 4 p.m.
