Kenosha, Wis. - Freshman Sierra Townsend and sophomore Brittany Walsh each won a pair of events to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming team to a 132-73 win over Carthage College in Kenosha Saturday afternoon, just one day after returning from their 10-day training trip in Florida.

Walsh led off the individual performances of the day with very convincing victory in the 1000 freestyle, finishing nearly half a minute in front of the next swimmer. The sophomore's other win came in the 500 freestyle, touching out ten seconds before the next scorer.

In all, the Panthers won all 11 events on the day.

"It was an absolutely awesome meet," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Clements said. "I love being back in action right after getting back from our training trip. We didn't even get off the plane until 11 o'clock last night, so to be back in action right away today really challenges them and that's what we were looking for."

Townsend grabbed a pair of wins in 50 and 100 freestyle. In her first race, the freshman touched the wall in 24.54. Then, in the 100 free, she finished with a time of 53.02, over a second in front of the next swimmer.

Townsend and sophomores Becky Yokosh, Emily McClellan and Diana Diel kicked the day off with an impressive win in the 400 medley relay, touching the wall over 14 seconds in front of UWM's 'B' team, the next finisher in the race.

The Panthers won handily despite using a lineup made up almost entirely of freshmen and sophomores for the meet.

"I wanted to give the underclassmen a feel of, not what life without the seniors is like, but just to give them an idea of what it would be like and they handled it very well," Clements said. "Being mostly underclassmen, they did a really good job and I'm proud of their work today."

Other winners included Anna Yontz in the 200 freestyle, McClellan in the 400 IM, Yokosh in the 200 backstroke, Diel in the 200 butterfly and Sarah Wardecke in the 200 breaststroke.

Milwaukee wrapped up the day with the 200 freestyle relay team (Danielle Chapman, Karen Illg, McClellan and Wardecke) taking first.

The Panthers return to action next weekend as they head to the University of Chicago for a dual meet with the Maroons Saturday at 1 p.m.
