Post-Game Wrap-Up

DETROIT, Mich. (March 3, 2011) - Lindsay Laur had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds and Angela Rodriguez hit five 3's to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team to a 65-55 win over Detroit Thursday evening at Calihan Hall.

The Panthers (12-16, 9-8 Horizon) have now won three-straight games and have clinched no worse than the No. 6 seed in next week's Horizon League Championship. They also kept themselves in position to move up in the standings, as high as to No. 4.

"It's great to get a win on the road at Detroit," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "I thought it was a balanced effort. I thought we played poised and composed. They made runs, but we stayed tough and made plays. We got to the free throw line in the second half and that was a big piece (of our game plan). It was a nice road win."

Laur was quiet for much of the game, limited to 11 minutes in the first half with two fouls, but came through down the stretch. She scored Milwaukee's last eight points, including making all six free throw attempts to ice the game. Rodriguez did all of her scoring in the first half, keeping UWM in the game with five 3-pointers.

Courtney Lindfors also scored in double-figures with 13 points, while Sami Tucker missed a double-double by just two points. She finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Lauren Allen led Detroit with 19 points and was the lone Titan in double-figures. Dominique Dixon added nine points, Jalesa Jones eight and two players with seven.

Each half featured sizeable runs that the other team rebounded from, save for a final 14-4 Panther streak to end the game. In the second half, it was Milwaukee rattling off 14-straight points to turn a 33-30 deficit into a 44-33 advantage. Detroit eventually tied the game at 51-51.

The Titans scored 10-straight points in the opening frame with the Panthers leading, 11-4. With the score within one possession, the teams traded scoring punches over the remainder of the opening half. It was Rodriguez's shooting that kept UWM close. Her fifth three-pointer made it 30-30 at the intermission and gave her half of her team's point total.

Milwaukee shot 46.7 percent from the field for the game, including 7-of-19 from three-point range. The Panthers got to the free throw line 19 times, making 16, and had a 42-30 rebounding advantage. They did commit 16 turnovers in the game, but just four after halftime.

Meanwhile, the UWM defense clogged the middle and limited the Detroit offense to just 33.3 percent shooting. The Titans were 6-of-17 from three-point range and 5-for-9 at the free throw line. They also turned the ball over just eight times.

The Panthers close out the regular season Saturday at Wright State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
